In five days, I canvassed Daytona Bike Week looking for things that caught my eye and testing new products and motorcycles for future stories on WRN. Armed with a still camera as well as a video camera, here are a few highlights of what I saw, including a teaser of stories to come on WRN.
Daytona Bike Week 2008: Whats there for women
The Harley-Davidson CVO program creates limited edition, exclusive motorcycles produced by teams of technicians in a special assembly area at the Harley-Davidson plants in York, Pa., and Kansas City. Each year several of the regular models are chosen to go through the CVO treatment. These custom bikes feature a Twin Cam 110, the largest displacement production engine offered by Harley. To celebrate the increase in women riding their own motorcycles, Harley-Davidson organized a womens parade taking place during Daytona Bike Week 2008. The parade was the culmination of the “Get Down to Daytona” contest where six winners submitted videos talking about their riding mentors. WRNs Genevieve Schmitt was there covering the event.

Hundreds of Harley-Davidson women riders joined together in Daytona Beach, Fla., for one of the largest Harley-Davidson womens rides in history. Originally, the Harley-Davidson Womens Day Ride benefiting Muscular Dystrophy Association was to be limited to 105 women, but after an incredible response from women riders asking to join the ride, Harley-Davidson decided to increase the size to accommodate the large demand.

New York City Transportation Ignores Federal Law
The American Motorcyclist Association invites motorcyclists to attend the inaugural Bay Area Rally, a Signature Event in the AMA Premier Touring Series presented by Cycle Trader. The event will include various group rides, and a Women Riders Convention. Motorcyclists from around the United States will ride into Houstons NASA Johnson Space Center and the surrounding Clear Lake area for four days, April 10-13.
Women Seminars At Houstons Bay Area Rally
Due to the unexpected cancellation of musical act Aerosmith, the Harley Owner’s Group is announcing a revised lineup of entertainment for the CLUB H.O.G. 25th anniversary celebration. As a result, all activities at Milwaukee’s Miller Park during the group’s August 28 event will be free to H.O.G. members.
