One of the biggest events to take place for women motorcycle riders in 2012 was the AMA International Women and Motorcycling Conference. For summer 2013, female motorcyclists will gather for a similar conference scheduled just across the border.

Womens motorcycling events at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally have come and gone over the years, but none has had longer and stronger “legs” than the Biker Belles celebration, an event organized by the Sturgis Buffalo Chip that just completed its second year.

Though the AMA International Women and Motorcycling Conference ended three weeks ago, women motorcyclists are still talking about it on Facebook, sharing photos and connecting with new friends online. The four-day celebration of women riders was a chance to meet new friends, reconnect with old ones and learn about various aspects of motorcycling.
Riders Celebrate at International Women Motorcycling Conference
The fifth annual Harley-Davidson MDA Women’s Ride at this year’s Daytona Bike Week was a great success, with approximately 168 riders (and three dogs) in attendance. The Harley-Davidson MDA Women’s Ride started back in 2008 as an opportunity for women to meet up with Karen Davidson, great granddaughter of one of the founders of Harley-Davidson.

Trikes are more popular than ever, and to capitalize on this growing interest, South Dakota-based Lehman Trikes invited trike lovers to rev up their engines for its inaugural All-Trike Ride at the Sturgis Rally in August. The ride was part of the company’s Good Turn Trike presentation, awarding one deserving winner with a brand-new trike.

About 100 female riders showed up to participate in the first Biker Belles ride, an all-women ride (where men could ride in the back) taking place during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August. WRN Editor Genevieve Schmitt participated in and covered the ride.

Yesterday, Conga IV rally organizer, Flo Fuhr, and her posse of pink partners rode in from western Canada to the WRN offices in Livingston, Mont., to say hello on their way to Shell, Wyo., for the Conga IV rally this weekend. I shot some video of them on their visit. They are raising money along the way for breast cancer research charities.

Girl power was in full force on March 8 when close to 150 women riders lined up their motorcycles on Beach Street in Daytona Beach, Fla., for the fourth annual Harley-Davidson MDA Women’s Ride.
