I am still catching up from Sturgis and wishing the rally went on for another week. I need more downtime… dont we all? Although Sturgis is mostly work for me, I do try and build in some fun. I just dont feel I got enough fun this time, quite frankly. Im too busy riding to and from industry events and test riding other motorcycle and trikes to have time to get out into the Black Hills and do some joy riding.

People ask me, “What is a touring bike?” and I always say it’s any bike you’re touring on. I know I know, but really, unless you’re doing some truly hardcore riding, anything with a decent-sized gas tank that’s comfortable for a couple-day’s ride that you can strap some gear on is fine. Still, it’s very nice to have a bike that’s actually built for touring and the 650cc Versys is a versatile choice.

I don’t get mad when people call me a “hack” mom; I take it as a compliment. I am a single mom of two beautiful daughters, ages 12 and 17. My 17-year-old is legally blind, and riding on the back of a motorcycle was very disorienting for her. She just didn’t enjoy it, so I never pushed. Motorcycling has been and always will be a big part of my life, and I wanted to share the love I have for it with my children.

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2010 Recap

The 70th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is now history and by all accounts the 7-day official event that ended Sunday, August 15, is shaping up to be a record attendance year with early estimates around 600,000, up from the 442,000 in 2009. The increase was expected as milestone-rally years like the 70th always attract larger crowds.

As I write this, Im packing for the 70th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Yep, 70 years! Here are some highlights of whats going on this year. The Buffalo Chip Campground, long the bastion of sexuality, salaciousness and sin, has come clean in recent years as more and more industry-wide events, and big name concerts are held there.
