Mostly boys and I would ride our dirt bikes almost every weekend. Between riding dirt bikes, driving Mustangs, and riding horses I got my adrenaline fix.
At some point I settled down, got married, had babies and have a life that I love. Then it comes back, your desire to feel the rush again. I am blessed to have such a great family, but I was missing me somewhere in the mix. I loved riding on the back of my husbands bike, but I wasnt getting the rush of that mini bike, the kick of running barrels on a powerful equine, the g-force of drag racing, or the heart-pounding thrill of conquering a mountain on a dirt bike.
Now, I have found a way to roll all that into one, a 2005 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic. My Heritage Softail is my dirt bike, horse, and hot rod. It is my rush of adrenaline, my empowering freedom, my release of stress, and my way to stay in touch with me!
Great story. I too had too many speeding tickets in my youth. I rode my dad's dirt bike a few times. My husband has always had a bike and I rode on the back. So when he started having heart trouble I wondered if I should get my license to get the bike home if that were ever a problem. The new problem? Once I took the class I had to have my own. (Can you tow a bike with a bike? Hope not to need to find out.)
Great way to reconnect with your passion for adventure and fulfillment of life. Ride on!
I can relate to your story. We give so much in trying to raise happy children, keeping the hubby happy and trying to have a happy home, we miss our own happiness.
Well, the kids grew up, the hubby got his own bike and I was not satisfied sitting on the back. When I learned to ride more than four years ago, it felt like I was finally getting back to me.
I just traded in my 07 1200XL Custom Sportster for an 08 Heritage Softail Classic. Although it is winter in Wisconsin right now, I'm looking forward to that adrenaline rush that you speak of. I've been riding for four years now and know exactly what you mean.
Thank you for sharing your story. It adds to the anticipation!
Good for you. It is a rush and love your bike!
Thanks so much for putting my story up. Wow. I am so proud you picked me. Thanks again!
You go girl! There is nothing like that adrenaline rush of riding one's own motorcycle.Reading your story, reminds me of me own a little. Racing cars (Mustang 1970) loved it. Trans Am too. Started out on a 750 Honda years ago. Would not part with my 2002 Custom Harley Davidson Low Rider for the world. Retired police officer now, private motorcycle instructor and own my own custom leather outfit company. It makes a body feel good to know females who have discovered their own empowerment. Keep riding safe and let the roads take you to your next adventure. Much Lv. Smooth
Dear Penny:
You sound like a true Tom Boy – just my kind of riding buddy! I surround myself with people who are not afraid to get a little dirty and enjoy the cleansing rush of the wind. When I saw that you are in Nashville I couldn't help but let you know that my husband and I will be down there teaching “A Crash Course for the Motorcyclist” at Boswell's on March 6th! It's a class every motorcyclist should take dealing with how to respond at the scene of a crash until the professionals arrive. Go to http://www.accidentscene.org to find out more.
Thanks!
