Whether you need to pack a little or a lot on your motorcycle, you'll find a suitable option with a Nelson Rigg tail bag. The company has been offering an extensive line of quality tail bags, backrest bags, tank bags, trunk rack bags, saddlebags, and pet carriers for more than 30 years. I’ve enjoyed using two of the company’s tail bags on several different motorcycles since 2019; the Weekender and the Commuter Lite, which are still offered today (a testament to their quality.)

Attaching these bags to the passenger pillion of various models is easy and effective, but if your motorcycle has a luggage rack, that may be an option for mounting as well. In fact, Nelson Rigg now calls the Weekender a “rack bag.”
Nelson Rigg Weekender Backrest Rack Bag
Nelson Rigg’s largest tail bag, the Weekender, measures 14 inches long x 13.5 inches wide x 10 inches high. It is expandable up to 13 inches high. The 40-liter expanded capacity is large enough for—you guessed it—a weekend’s worth of supplies. Even when not expanded, the 31-liter capacity will hold plenty of stuff. In fact, a full face helmet fits comfortably inside with room to spare, even without expanding the bag.

I love the diversity and stability of this bag’s attachment options. Nelson Rigg’s web site shows how the Weekender attaches to several different types of motorcycle luggage racks.
The Weekender features two outer pockets that I find useful for things like disc locks, eyeglass cleaner, and stuff you want easy access to. The lid’s interior includes a zippered compartment that holds paper and flat malleable items nicely.
Nelson Rigg Commuter Series
Nelson Rigg’s Commuter series includes three sizes of tail bags—Lite, Sport, and Touring. I own the Lite which measures 11 inches long x 10 inches wide, and is 6.5 inches high and expands to 8.5 inches high. It can hold 15.32 liters when expanded and 11.71 liters when compressed. It’s the perfect size to fit what you need for a day ride: sunglasses, gloves, rainsuit, snacks, and water.

The Commuter Lite features a molded lid with carbon-like accents. The interior portion of the lid includes a zippered mesh compartment, good for keeping the rain cover and a few other small sundries. The main compartment includes two crossed elastic straps which are helpful for keeping your stuff from rolling around inside. The tail bag even includes a flush-mounted reflective carry handle and an adjustable carry strap.
Quality Construction
Nelson Rigg’s Weekender and Commuter Lite are made of durable UltraMax fabric and have semi-rigid construction and solid bases. This maintains their shape even when empty. The UltraMax material has been through three years of testing and boasts extreme UV protective qualities and is water- and abrasion-resistant. Because Nelson Rigg stands proudly by this material, all its UltraMax products carry a lifetime warranty.
Both tail bags have reflective piping, lined interiors, and come with waterproof rain covers. They are affixed to the motorcycle by using four adjustable quick-release straps that you can run under the seat or around a secure point on the motorcycle.
Each Nelson Rigg tail bag includes anti-slip base material, sturdy zippers with easy-to-use pull tabs, and small eyelets that you can secure with a luggage lock.
Route 1 Rover Pet Carrier
While we haven’t had the chance to test Nelson-Rigg’s pet carrier, it gets rave reviews from customers. And we know the quality and features are up to par with the company’s other luggage options.

The Route 1 Rover Pet Carrier is designed to accommodate pets up to 20 pounds. The tail bag interior is rigid and well-structured, with a sturdy base panel that helps keep your pet stable during rides. For added comfort, a removable, easy-to-clean, padded bottom panel provides a cozy resting spot.

A wide top opening allows for quick and easy access and the two-stage zipper system lets you control how much exposure your pet gets. Inside, a built-in adjustable safety leash ensures your pet stays secure while still allowing some movement.
Thoughtful side storage pockets offer a place for treats, water, and small essentials. Just like the other bags, there is plenty of reflective piping to boost visibility for those early morning or late-night rides.
Mounting options are flexible, making the Rover easy to attach to a luggage rack, sissy bar, or seat using the included quick-release and self-fastening straps. It's lifetime warranty speaks volumes about its durability and quality. Riders who’ve tested the Rover say it’s safe and surprisingly easy to use, making it an excellent investment for motorcycle-loving pet parents.
