The spark that ignited a global movement in women’s motorcycling is back with a brand-new digital twist. Women Riders World Relay (WRWR) is an international phenomenon that united women riders in more than 78 countries during its original relay in 2019–2020. WomenRidersNow.com (WRN) hosted the group at the American International Motorcycle Expo in 2019 and is thrilled about WRWR announcing its relaunch in 2025. This time, an app-based platform promises to be more interactive, inclusive, and empowering than ever before.

How a Facebook Post Became a Global Sisterhood

It started with one question. In late 2018, UK rider Hayley Bell asked in a Facebook group:

Could a woman carry a baton by motorcycle and pass it to another woman, continuing the relay around the globe, all powered by women riders?”

The response was immediate—and electric. Yes, absolutely.

Thousands of women responded. They wanted to ride, support, and connect. Hayley’s vision became a mission. Soon, the Women Riders World Relay was born.

Recognized as American Motorcyclist magazine’s 2019 Motorcyclist of the Year, WRWR founder Hayley Bell earned global acclaim for launching one of the most unifying and ambitious efforts in women’s motorcycling history.

A growing team of administrators and volunteers quickly grew. Hayley and the WRWR crew mapped out a worldwide route. Then the team recruited country ambassadors, and rallied a grassroots movement unlike anything the motorcycle world had seen before.

The Ride Heard Around the World

In February 2019, Hayley carried the baton to the starting line at John O’Groats in the UK. From there, the relay began.

Women passed the baton across six continents. More than 3,500 riders covered 60,000+ miles through 78 countries. Every baton handoff told a story. Every ride created connection.

A historic handoff on hallowed ground—WRN co-owner and land speed record holder Erin Sills receives the WRWR baton from founder Hayley Bell at the legendary Utah Salt Flats. Wearing her iconic "red hat" as a member of the elite 200 MPH Club, Erin represents the fearless spirit and speed-driven sisterhood at the heart of women’s motorcycling.

One year later, hundreds of riders reunited at The Bike Shed in London to celebrate the baton’s return. But the real victory was what had been built along the way: community, visibility, and a global sisterhood of riders ready to be seen and heard.

A powerful finale to an unforgettable journey—WRWR participants from around the world gathered at London’s iconic Ace Cafe, united not just by the baton’s return, but by the bonds forged across continents

The Spirit of WRWR Hasn't Faded

Even after the last baton pass, the momentum continued. Women stayed connected through the WRWR Facebook group. New friendships deepened, and meetups continued. But without a baton to chase, the energy slowly faded.

Until now.

This year, WRWR founder Hayley Bell, along with longtime administrator and organizer Liza Miller, are announcing something big—WRWR is evolving into a digital platform and app. The mission will be expanded and carried forward into the future.

With the iconic WRWR baton in hand, Liza Miller and Hayley Bell unveil the upcoming WRWR mobile app, launching this September at the WIMA International Rally. Blending tradition with innovation, the app will connect women riders across the globe with digital relays, riding challenges, and a new era of sisterhood in motion.

The Next Evolution: A Digital Relay for a Global Community

Slated to launch in early 2026, the WRWR app will include:

• A digital baton that women can “pass” globally

• A challenge series to encourage growth in riding, maintenance, and mechanical skills

• A global social space for women to meet, share, and support each other

Tools to collect feedback and positively influence the global motorcycle industry. A means to provide women’s insights into gear, bikes, community and more.

“The WRWR team stands united behind the next evolution of their mission—an app designed to spark connection, growth, and hands-on empowerment. Because riding is just the beginning; the real power comes from learning, building, and lifting each other up—together.

“This isn’t just a digital update,” says co-organizer Liza Miller. “It’s the start of an even bigger movement.”

Calling Ambassadors: The World Needs You

WRWR is now seeking country ambassadors. One woman from every nation across the globe will help lead the charge. Nearly 25% of countries are already represented.

Want to help shape the future of motorcycling for women? This is your moment.

Canadian and American WIMA members proudly display the WIMA USA and WIMA International banners—representing just a few of the many countries already onboard for the next global WRWR mission. With ambassadors stepping up from across the world, the team is still calling on women riders everywhere to help carry the torch and represent their countries in this growing international sisterhood.
