Although most riders associate the gear from Fly Racing with dirt bikes and other forms of off-road motorcycling, the companyhas been beefing up its line of street motorcycle gear, offering a small collection of womens street-biking apparel that includes jackets, pants and gloves.
To get a sense of how these items stack up against the competition, we reviewed the Georgia II Ladies Jacket, a waterproof, breathable nylon jacket with a friendly price tag and all the features you’d expect to find in a more expensive package.
WRN contributor Tricia Szulewski wears the Fly Racing Georgia II Ladies Jacket, available in white (shown), black, red, and pink. These matching CoolPro Ladies Gloves are also available from Fly Racing in white or pink for $29.99.The Georgia II’s sporty, waist-length design is anatomically fitted with precurved sleeves for maximum comfort when bent in a riding position. The CE-approved shoulder and elbow armor is removable, as is the included back pad.
The jacket’s full-sleeved, quilted polyester liner includes two interior pockets that are good for stowing a cell phone and other essentials.
Removing the liner from the Georgia II does not result in a loss of storage space, as the outer shells interior pockets are duplicates of the liners pockets. To remove the liner, simply unsnap two waist snaps and two snaps on each sleeve, then unzip the liner from the shell.
The outer shell includes a vertically zippered pocket on the interior of the left breast panel. Two exterior hand-warmer packets are also zippered shut.
Vents on each shoulder are opened with a zipper that’s otherwise hidden from view.
The same is true for two large vertical rear vents.
A Velcro tab keeps the outer shell’s zipper pull from smacking you in the neck or chin. Tricia liked that the pull was long and therefore easy to use. Another Velcro tab secures the jacket’s collar, but the small piece of Velcro could be larger to allow for more adjustability. While the Georgia IIs sleeves are pretty wide, each sleeve has a double, three-position snap cincher to help achieve the right fit.
Snap and zipper cuffs open wide to help allow thick gloves to fit underneath.
Unfortunately, even zipped and snapped, the cuff is pretty loose, which lets air into the sleeve unless you wear gloves with large gauntlets that extend over the cuff. Wearing the liner helps a bit, as its elasticized cuffs are fitted to the wrists.
Zippers on each side extend all the way to the armpit, with gussets to keep out air and water. This is handy for those times when you need to layer up (or when you’ve eaten a big meal and need some extra room).
If you find theres still too much room in the waist, the Velcro tabs at the bottom of the jacket help take in the material.
Tricia found the waist adjusters to be positioned too low for her shape. She’d prefer that the material cinch higher up, which would make the jacket less “boxy” and help to accentuate her womanly curves.High-visibility piping and reflective logos on the front, back, and sides of the jacket make it easier for other drivers to see you at night. While the jacket provided enough material to cover her lower back, Tricia wished the design curved down slightly more in the back to provide a little extra security by being snug to her midsection.
Update July 11, 2016: TheGeorgia II Ladies Jacket is no longer available but other womens jackets are. Be sure to check Fly Racing’s fitment chart, available on its website, to be sure youre getting the right size. Tricia wore an XL, which according to the company translates into a 9/10. She says she usually fits into a size 12 jacket, but the XL fit her nicely. More information available at FlyRacing.com.
Looks great. Well thought out features and design. I’d buy one!
