Dennis Schaeffer of Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, is the 2006 AMA Road Rider of the Year. Schaeffer, AMA Life Member and Harley-Davidson dealer, demonstrated his enthusiasm for motorcycling throughout the year by supporting the sport of motorcycle racing by sponsoring racers, and he also supported charities and volunteered at local clubs in his community. He and his wife, Carol, have been recognized for raising more than $1.5 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association since 1988.
Schaeffer, a founding member of his Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) chapter, and his dealership sponsor 25 motorcycle racers in various disciplines and has done so for almost 40 consecutive years.
Schaeffer will receive a handsome plaque and complimentary admission for himself and a guest to AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in July and to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction ceremony in October.
The AMA Road Rider of the Year is selected from nominations submitted by motorcyclists throughout the United States. Nominations are judged by a panel of AMA staff based upon the nominees contributions to road riding and the motorcycling community. Nominees must be AMA members.
