They accelerate like rockets and corner like a dream—sure, sportbikes may appear less comfortable than your standard cruiser, but for those addicted to these machines built for thrills, nothing else quite compares. Just like other segments of motorcycling, sportbikes and road racing are growing increasingly popular with women riders. And at Women Riders Now, we want those riders to have a place to call home.
We’re excited to introduce our new Sportbike Corner, a place where sportbike enthusiasts can find information pertinent to their style of motorcycling, including exclusive reviews of new models and announcements for sportbike-related products and accessories. And if you visit the section now, youll find all the stories weve done on sportbikes in the past, including reviews of motorcycles like the Kawasaki Ninja 250 and BMW F800, news on women-only track days, and information on Suzukis new GSX-R models.
We’re also excited to introduce our latest WRN columnist and core contributor to Sportbike Corner, Rachael Westfall. Rachael is a freelance writer from Lake Forest, Calif., who rides a 2008 Kawasaki ZX-10R. In addition to contributing to WRN and MotorcycleShows.com, she serves as vice president of the US chapter of the Womens International Motorcycle Association (WIMA USA), is a certified motorcycle technician, and has worked as an instructor for TrackXperience.com. We know you’ll enjoy Rachael’s wisdom and insight on the world of women and sportbikes—check out her first column, Women Sportbike Riders vs. Women Cruiser Riders, for thoughts on how different (or alike) sportbike riders are from their cruiser-rider counterparts, as well as profiles on some of the fearless women in the sport.
Help us spread the word to your sportbike-riding friends (men included!)—or if you ride a cruiser and are curious about life in the (very) fast lane, this is a great place to get acquainted. Click here to see all the articles in WRN’s Sportbike Corner.

Women Sportbike Riders vs. Women Cruiser Riders
Glad to see other women share the same passion of riding sportbikes as I do! I do not meet too many women who ride sportbikes in my area. My first bike was a Suzuki GS500F. It is a great starter sportbike. I now own a Suzuki GSX-R600 and I love it! hope to make it to some track days and meet other women riders.
A great addition! I am a committed sport touring rider and feel very happy you have expanded the focus.
Just to clarify, we have always included and written about sportbike and sport-touring as seen by the list of stories included in the WRN Sporbike Corner page. The stories go back as far as Women Riders Now has been live. We’re now just compiling those stories in their own section so sport enthusiasts can find them easier. Thanks for reading WRN!
Great addition to an already great mag! When discussing sportbikes with the uninitiated, it’s important to point out that the bike only goes as fast as you want it to go. Sure, these bikes are designed to go fast, but they are lots of fun at regular road speeds too. also, Track days aren’t all about going FAST; it’s about being able to focus on your cornering, accelerating and braking techniques without the demands of being on a public road. Even the quietest of roads will still have wildlife, roadkill, driveways, compromised pavement, etc.
I have been wondering for some time if my 2008 Harley VRSCD (V-Rod, 1250cc) truly fits the sportbike class. It surely isn’t a cruiser. I think it’s Harley’s version of a sportbike, and their drag-bike is a V-Rod!
I’m really happy to see this new addition to WRN. I’d also like to see some coverage of WIMA and groups like GirlClutch that cater to sportbike and international female riders.
Yeah! Love to see the unity here! Way to go, Genevieve!
Yay! At long last I find sister spirits. It has been a bit lonely in my sport-touring club and at the track so far. Hope to ride with other sport riding addicts soon! I own a Suzuki GSX-R750 and a Ducati 996. Will even swallow my pride and trailer to meet other WRN members if a bit far from the Midwest.
Thank you. As the owner of two sport touring bikes, I look forward to more customized articles for we speedsters.
I ride a cruiser and a sportbike and love them both! It will be exciting to read about sportbikes and the women that ride them.
Hooray! Fabulous! A section for those of us who ride facing forward, instead of laying back :). I started on a cruiser, but found my true love on a sporsbike and now ride a Gixxer 1000.
Fantastic! I am excited to have a site dedicated to women who love to run their bikes to the limit! Track days are a great way to improve your skills and have fun. See you at the track!
I’m so happy you’ve started a sportbike corner. I love your ‘zine but often felt left out because I ride a Suzuki 1250. This is great!
