In a contest aimed at women riders, Harley-Davidson awarded a 2005 883 Sportster Low and Riders Edge New Rider Course to April Rohrer of Fargo, North Dakota, at the Sturgis Rally in August. Harley partnered with Jane magazine in a contest titled the Spirit of Freedom celebrating every-day women who overcome fears, obstacles or boundaries to achieve a life-long dream. Rhorer served as a combat medic in Iraq for 18 months. The winner was chosen based on a 200-word essay on how she showcases her spirit.
